The less known original manga makes it worse by giving much greater detail.This scene is very much the epitome of this trope. Only the resurrection of Akira and the creation of a new universe is enough to stop him. Akira's most horrific scene involves Tetsuo losing control of his considerable psychic powers and mutating out of control into an amorphous Eldritch Abomination that consumes anything it touches.
